A Florida Long Weekend

Yikes!  I go on vacation, come home and my brain falls to mush and apparently so does my blogging!  You may remember...oh 2+ weeks ago I blogged about some beach vacation essentials.  We were getting ready to head to Florida for a much needed long weekend.  By the time we got back and life took over, blogging apparently took a back seat.  And honestly, I kind of needed it to, at least temporarily.  But that is a story for another day.

Today, instead of a weekend recap (because we just had a quiet stay-at-home kind of weekend this past weekend), I thought I would do a post about our long weekend in Florida.  We had a fabulous trip.  We flew down on Wednesday night after work and make a quick stop at Target to pick up a few supplies.  Thursday morning I woke up and enjoyed a cup of coffee with a view.

Unfortunately, we also woke up Thursday morning to realize that the AC wasn't working properly (a MUST HAVE in June in Florida) and we found out the boat wasn't ready to be picked up yet.  #firstworldproblems I know.  But, when you only have a long weekend, you want to enjoy every moment.

We made the best of it however.  I got a little bit of Stella & Dot work done, while sitting in the sun and the hubby and Buoy fished for a bit.  Then the AC repair guy showed up and the boat was ready so by the end of the day, we were ready to rock!

Buoy also enjoyed his pool.  This pup has definitely lived up to his name.  He is a water dog and loves to lay in a pool, lake, ocean, whatever is available.  Especially when it is hot and humid out.

Thursday night, we had dinner with the hubby's grandmother & aunt and uncle.  We finished up in time to enjoy sunset and then headed out for a few adult beverages.  We hardly ever go to a bar to drink at home, so this was special fun!

Friday, we slept in and then headed over to Boca Grande to walk around, do a little bit of shopping and enjoy lunch.  Then we came back and spent the rest of the afternoon on the boat, before heading over to have cocktails and appetizers with the hubby's other grandparents.  It's great that we can all of the hubby's grandparents in one place!

Sunset is my favorite time of day, so we made sure to not miss a single one!

This is what traveling with my husband, the photographer often looks like.......

Saturday was a boat day all day long!  We like to stop at our favorite beach area, Stump Pass, to hang out and let Buoy enjoy walking around and the ocean.

Saturday night, we recorded Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final (yes I still can't believe the hubby wanted to do that) and took a boat ride back to Stump Pass to enjoy sunset.  We brought Publix sushi (yum!  Publix is the best!) and Prosecco with us to enjoy cocktails and appetizers while the hubby shot the sunset.  The storm moved in quickly, but thankfully held off until we got back.

After sunset, we grabbed some take out (I can never get enough Grouper or Mahi Mahi while we are in Florida) and watched the Blackhawks win game 5!

Sunday morning, we went to church with the hubby's grandparents and enjoyed another boat day.

Instead of boating to Stump Pass for sunset Sunday night, we decided to drive and see it from a different spot.  It was our last sunset, and mother nature did not disappoint!

Monday was spent enjoying a last few moments in the sun and packing and cleaning up to head home.  There were crazy storms in both Tampa and Chicago, so we ended up being delayed.  Hours and hours delayed.  Buoy was a trooper.  Poor guy.

We got to see some Game 6 at the airport, but ultimately were in the air when the Blackhawks won their 3rd Stanley Cup in 6 years,  Bittersweet, especially for my hubby.  (We watched the entire game on DVR the following night.  Go Hawks!) We ended up getting home about 2:00am, which meant for a rough day at work Tuesday morning.

The hubby and I almost never take a vacation just the two of us, so to get a few moments of alone time was a wonderful thing.  Can we please go back?

Wanderlust Wednesday: Beach Vacation Essentials

It's hump day!  But today is even better than that.  Today is actually my Friday.  Why?  We are heading to Florida this evening for a much needed beach vacation!  This trip was originally scheduled for over Spring Break and Easter, but a few things got in the way of our plans so we re-schedule for June.  Since I grew up in Florida, I know June means HOT and HUMID.  It wouldn't be my first choice to go down this time of year, but you take what you can get.

I'm also excited because this trip is just the hubby and I.  Oh and Buoy.  (Because he never gets left behind!)  The two of us (three of us) rarely get a vacation all to ourselves.  We LOVE our families and we LOVE traveling with them/to them.  BUT it's nice to take a vacation that is just us every once in awhile.

I've been itching for a beach vacation....well since the day we got home from our last one over a year ago.  Since I've been packing my bags, I thought I would share a few of my beach vacation essentials.  Can't leave home without 'em!

To make packing easier, I stuck to a neutral palette (story of my life, even when I'm not taking a trip) and picked once accent color.  I mostly have black and white packed, with a few pops of PINK (shocking, I know).  This is a super casual trip, so I don't need to bring heels or anything like that with me.  A few shorts & tees, some sun dresses and flip flops and I am good to go!  And sunscreen.  Lots and lots of sunscreen.  Otherwise I am going to fry!  And I never used to.  Anyone else having that problem?  The older you get, the more likely you are to burn from the sun?

Beach Vacation Essentials

I'm actually really proud of myself.  And the hubby.  But more impressed with myself.  We are packed in one check bag with room to spare and a small carry-on roller.  Packing cubes have saved my life!  If we can swing it, I always like to have a carry-on bag that has enough essentials to get us through a day or two if our luggage were to get lost.  It's happened before and it will happen again.  Better safe than sorry!

Beach Essentials

I can't wait to enjoy coffee with this view tomorrow morning!

If you want to follow along on our weekend vacay, I'll be posting on Instagram!  Do you have any beach vacations that you are wander-lusting after?  What are your essentials?  Did I miss anything?

Weekend Update

Hello Monday!  You don't seem so bad when I get to sleep in a few extra minutes, go to work in shorts and know that I get to leave by 1:00pm.  There may or may not be a long over due mani and pedi happening afternoon to celebrate.  And oh right, and it's a short week.  #winning

This weekend went by way to quickly, as always! The hubby had the opportunity to golf at Whistling Straights with his dad, which is conveniently located on the way up north.  They went up ahead early to play on Friday afternoon and  I picked up my mother-in-law after work. The timing worked out perfectly: about the time they were finishing golf, we were driving through and met them there for dinner.  I had never seen the grounds and they are gorgeous.  I had no idea such beautiful rolling hills existed in Wisconsin!

If you ever have the chance to stop and spend some time in Kohler, definitely put Whistling Straights on your list!  Even if you don't golf, it is worth stopping by for lunch or dinner.  The views are gorgeous and the food is out of this world!  I had the best bowl of clam chowder I've ever eaten.

Since it was freezing outside (#welcometowisconsinsummer), the gorgeous fireplace was warm and welcoming!

After sitting in hours of rush hour to get out of the Chicagoland area, I was excited to have a glass of wine.  The hubby was a good sport and let me have two and he drove the rest of the way north.

Saturday's project consisted of mulching part of the shoreline.  Of course dummy me only took a before picture and not an after.  But it looks a lot better.  Just fresh and cleaned up.  Of course, we didn't have enough mulch, so a trip to Home Depot was in order to get more.

Right near Home Depot, there happens to be on of the best places to get ice cream/custard.  So we stopped in for a little treat on our way back to the lake.

A few more shoreline projects and then I got to enjoy a few moments of sunshine on the dock late Saturday afternoon.  Mother nature is making this summer very challenging.  There have been more rainy days then nice days, which means most of the nice days are spent getting beginning of summer projects done instead of enjoying the lake.  But, that's part of having a lake house.  It takes work to enjoy it!  And I wouldn't have it any other way!

Saturday night was a quiet family dinner and a good night sleep.  Sunday.  It rained.  So we did some inside projects, got some laundry done and then drove home.  Of course about the time we were leaving to head home, it was GORGEOUS out.  Just give us a beautiful July Mother Nature!  Please!

Friday Favorites: May Designs

Hello lovelies!  Fri-Yay, TGIF, Whoop!  I'm excited because this is my last Friday for awhile.  Not to brag, or rub it in, but for the next 8 weeks, I (hopefully) won't have to work on Fridays!  Never say never though, because I never know what might come up.  But our office will be closed and I at least stand a chance or not having to come in on a Friday for awhile.

Moving on to Friday Favorites......This week has been all about May Designs notebooks.  If you haven't checked them out, you need to.  They are so stinkin cute!  And you can personalize them.  (And no I'm not being sponsored to say this, I just really love 'em!  Plus, they regrammed me on Instagram, so now I love 'em even more!) (Ps - If you aren't following me on Instagram, why the heck not?! I'm fun, I promise!)

This first one is new-to-me as of this week.  May Designs recently revamped their Health and Fitness Journal and I'm digging it.  I'm a planner (shocking I know!) and when it comes to healthy eating, I need to plan.  I'm pretty sick of the hubby and I staring at each other 5 nights a week going...What do you want to eat for dinner?  I dunno, what do you want to eat for dinner?

This journal is going to be perfect for meal planning, work outs,  tracking hydration and other fitness goals.  I've been scouring my Pinterest boards for recipes I want to try (and cook!) so I can write it all down and make a plan!

This adorable Pineapple print was on sale the last time I placed an order and I had to have it for summer.  This one is just a plain, blank inside so I can write to-do lists, things I need to remember, packing lists, etc.  It's my go to notebook for summer brain dumps.  And it's pink. =)

That's pretty much it for this week!  It's been one of those weeks with lots and lots of work and not a lot of free time.  Plus a good notebook design really deserves it's own post, don't ya think!  Especially if you are a planner/notebook addict!  What can I say?  I love a good to do list!  What are your favorite notebooks?  Have a great weekend!

Weekend Update

Can I please push the rewind button?  I would like to start the weekend all over.  Story of my life: get great sleep over the weekend.  Feeling like I caught up a little bit and not existing in a permanent state of exhaustion.  Theeeeen Sunday night rolls around and insomnia sets back in.  Here it is Monday morning and I'm back to square one of running on empty.  Anyone else have this vicious cycle?  Any words of wisdom on how to break it?

This weekend was just what I needed.  It was quiet.  It was productive.  And it was restful...well until last night.  The only "problem" (and I use that term loosely) with a quiet weekend is no pictures.  Because there wasn't much to take pictures of.  Friday night we stayed in, had home made pizza and watched a movie.

Saturday was spent sleeping in, getting a few projects done around the house...oh yeah.  And watching the Hawks win!  Blackhawks are going to the Stanley Cup Final!  (Big hockey fans in our house).

We drank Old Fashioneds out of our new Drink Wisconsinbly glasses while watching the game.

Sunday was a repeat of Saturday.  Sleeping in and house projects.  I definitely could have used one more day.  Oh well.  Back to the grind.  One more week of full time hours and then we switch to summer hours.  Woo hoo!  Something to look forward to!
